This is the one with the iconic gold label, the glue that has quietly held together more craft projects than almost anything else on the shelf. The 16oz bottle is for people who get through it: classrooms, workshops and anyone whose current bottle never seems to last.
Aleene Jackson chose that gold bottle deliberately back in 1950, to mark the glue out as the premium, gold-standard adhesive. The reputation stuck: Aleene's Original Tacky Glue has since been inducted into the craft industry's Product Hall of Fame, alongside the likes of Crayola and Mod Podge.
Tacky Glue works on just about every surface. Its thick, tacky formula grabs items on contact, so pieces stay where you put them, and it dries strong, permanent and clear. It is non-toxic too, which is why it is as much at home in a primary-school classroom as it is on a serious maker's bench.
How to use
- On paper, card, fabric and other porous materials, spread a thin coat, press together and leave to dry.
- On wood, pottery and semi-porous surfaces, apply a heavier coat, clamp or weight the pieces, then leave to set for 30 to 40 minutes.
- Wipe away any excess with a damp cloth while it is still wet; dried glue cleans up with soap and water.
- Always test on an offcut first for the best results.
