About This Product

Soft fabric that holds a shape it was never meant to hold: that is the trick this bottle pulls off.

It comes from the same Aleene's stable as the famous gold-bottle Tacky Glue, a brand that has been solving crafters' problems in California since 1950. Fabric stiffener is the quiet secret behind a surprising amount of what you see at Halloween and on stage, as those eerie floating cheesecloth ghosts and draped, hardened figures are almost always made with a liquid like this.

It is a heavy-duty liquid that shapes and stiffens most fabrics and trims, then dries completely clear. Drape it, mould it over a form, or sculpt it into folds, and it sets firm while keeping the texture of the cloth. You can tint it with a little water-based acrylic for a coloured effect, or thin it with water when you want a softer, lighter hold rather than something rigid.

How to use

  • Work over a covered surface, as this is a wet, hands-on job.
  • Saturate or brush the liquid into the fabric until it is evenly soaked.
  • Drape or mould the fabric over your form and arrange the folds.
  • Leave to dry fully; the fabric holds its shape once set.
  • For a lighter hold, thin with water first; to colour it, mix in a little water-based acrylic.

Specifications

  • 16 fl. oz. (473ml) bottle
  • Stiffens and shapes most fabrics and trims
  • Dries clear, and can be tinted with water-based acrylic
  • Can be thinned with water for a softer hold
  • Non-toxic
  • Made in the USA
