The 2027 TRAVELER'S notebook Diaries Have Landed

Every year around this time the same thing happens. Someone comes to the counter holding a well-worn leather cover, the elastic gone slack and the corners softened to the colour of a conker, and asks whether the new diaries are in yet. So: they are. The 2027 TRAVELER'S notebook diary refills have arrived, and the full range is on the shelf.

Here is the detail I always enjoy pointing out. Slip the belly band off a new diary and you will find, tucked at the very back of the book, a page headed Departure Card for Travelers. Name, nationality, flight number, port of embarkation — laid out exactly like the immigration form you fill in half-asleep on a descending aircraft. Nobody at Designphil needed to put that there. The diary would work perfectly well without it. But the whole notebook has been built that way since 2006, when it came out of an in-house design competition, and that stubborn commitment to the conceit is precisely why people are still buying refills for covers they have carried for fifteen years.

What's in the range

There are five diary formats this year, in two sizes.

Monthly is the workhorse. A month across each spread, running from December 2026 through to January 2028, so you get the run-in and the run-out either side of the year proper. Behind the calendar pages there are year-at-a-glance spreads for 2027 and 2028, a yearly plan grid for anything that runs in blocks rather than on single days, and — this being TRAVELER'S — a world map printed faintly across a full spread. It comes in both regular and passport size.

Weekly + Memo gives you a week down the left-hand page and a memo page opposite. Half of it is lined, half of it is grid, which sounds like a small thing until you have used it for a month and realised how often you want to sketch something rather than write it. Regular size only.

Weekly Vertical runs the days as vertical columns across the spread, with the hours marked down the side. If you block your time out rather than list it, this is the one. Regular size only.

Weekly in passport size does the same job as the Weekly + Memo, scaled down to something that genuinely lives in a jacket pocket.

One thing worth knowing before you choose: the weekly diaries come as two books, not one. January to June in the first, July to December in the second. That is deliberate — a full year of weekly spreads in a single volume would be too thick to sit comfortably in a cover alongside anything else. It also means you are only ever carrying half a year at a time, which is rather the point of a notebook you can rebuild whenever you like.

The bits that go with them

Clear Folder — a transparent folder refill for tickets, stamps, receipts and the various bits of paper a year generates. This year's regular size design is printed with a cat, a guitar, a coffee grinder and a film camera; the passport size runs a blue notebook motif. Both are new artwork for 2027.

Plastic Sheet — the underlay, in regular and passport size. Slips behind the page you are writing on so you get a firm surface and no show-through from the sheet beneath. Printed on one side, grid-ruled on the other, which quietly doubles it as a ruler and a page marker.

Customize Sticker Set — six sheets in the pack. Index tabs, alphabet and number dry transfers, clear round stickers for marking dates, schedule icons, and film pocket stickers that make a little sleeve on the page for a card or a stamp. The dry transfers are the ones people underestimate; rub them down with a ballpoint and they sit on the page like print.

Choosing between them

If you are new to it, start with the Monthly. It is the format that survives a busy month without guilt, because a blank week in a monthly diary looks like a quiet week rather than a failure.

If you already know you write daily, the Weekly + Memo is the one most people settle on and stay with.

If your days are appointments rather than tasks, take the Weekly Vertical.

And if you are running a regular size cover, there is no reason not to run two refills at once — a monthly for the shape of the year and a weekly for the shape of the week. That is what the whole system is for.
