Liquitex Matte Varnish is a permanent, breathable acrylic varnish that provides a smooth, non-reflective finish while protecting your artwork from UV damage, dirt, and surface wear. Ideal for heavy textures, mixed media, and vertical applications, this varnish dries to a hard, flexible, matte surface that resists yellowing and fogging over time.
What it does:
- Creates a non-glossy matte finish to reduce glare and unify surface sheen
- Protects against UV light, dust, humidity, and surface abrasion
- Dries clear to a non-tacky, hard, flexible surface
- Improves colour vibrancy and surface durability
- Excellent levelling – will not hold brush marks
How to use:
- Apply to fully dry acrylic paintings (72 hours to 2 weeks depending on thickness)
- Stir gently – do not shake
- Apply horizontally using long, even strokes
- Apply 1–2 thin coats, allowing 3 hours between layers
- Do not thin with water or over-brush during application
Pro tip:
- For more than two layers, build thickness with Gloss Varnish first, then apply Matte as the final coat
