The Solitary Sunflower is a 50 x 120 cm original by Kimberley Harris, built up in heavy-bodied oil with the palette knife on board. The title gives the subject away: a single sunflower holding its own among wildflowers, in a palette the publisher lists as greens, blues, pinks and purples. It is one of her largest formats, framed to 70.8 x 140.8 cm.
One of Kimberley's earliest memories is her father, a lover of Impressionist painting, taking her to a JMW Turner exhibition at the Tate. She has said Turner's handling of light is never far from her thoughts, and it shows in the way her meadows are lit rather than simply coloured.
