Andrei Protsouk was born in Donetsk in 1961, the son of a photographer and a master embroiderer, and trained at the Ilya Repin Leningrad Institute, where Evsey Moiseenko, a contemporary of Chagall and Picasso, took him on as his protege. He emigrated to the United States in 1994 and now paints from his own gallery in Pennsylvania.
