Johnson paints the abstract, surreal side of the natural world: light playing amongst water drops, colour sinking below a piercing white surface, ocean and sky drifting in and out of a sweeping haze. Scaled down, the balance tips further towards pure abstraction — which is usually why the miniatures go first.
