Sydney-born painter and muralist Brad Robson (b. 1976) is fast building a reputation as one of the most exciting names in contemporary pop art. His building-sized murals rise over cities from Berlin and Barcelona to Los Angeles and New York, and he has exhibited across the UK, Europe, Australia and the US. For his gallery work he paints exclusively in oils.

In the studio, Robson begins with sweet pop-culture nostalgia — then subjects it to attack. Sweeping, erasing squeegee strokes are dragged across each portrait, disfiguring the icon until something new and more alive emerges. Marilyn Monroe, Mickey Mouse, Winnie the Pooh and other gods of art, cinema and cartoon culture are interrogated on the canvas and handed back an essence of truth and immediacy we had long stopped seeing. The result changes the unchangeable — and brings it so close it seems to breathe.

The editions

Robson's studio editions — including his signature 'Darker Shade' series (Pale, Aqua, Violet, Cerulean and Crimson) alongside pieces such as Honeybunny, Elmo Unchained and Force Above — are signed by the artist, issued in strictly limited numbers and supplied with a certificate of authenticity.
