Cyanotype and Sun Printing Kits
Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic processes — discovered in 1842,
and the origin of the architectural term "blueprint". You coat paper or fabric with
a two-part sensitiser, lay objects or a printed transparency on top, expose to
sunlight for a few minutes, then rinse in water. Where the light hits, the surface
turns deep Prussian blue. Where it is blocked, white. No darkroom, no enlarger,
no specialist equipment beyond the kit itself.
We stock the PAR range from the Netherlands — award-winning DIY kits for paper,
fabric, and postcards, plus sensitiser refills for regular use — alongside Jacquard
chemistry sets and pre-sensitised fabric sheets for those who want to skip the
coating step. If you want to go further, the Van Dyke Brown Kit produces warm
sepia-toned prints using a related 19th-century process. We also carry the two
key reference books on the subject.
All PAR kits are assembled in the Netherlands using inclusive employment
practices and fully eco-packaged. Instructions in four languages are included
in every kit. Not recommended for under 12s.
